Appalachians for Appalachia

Appalachians for Appalachia is a grassroots advocacy movement preparing the next generation of Appalachian leaders to drive progress in the Mountains.
Logo concept
Simply put, A4A starts conversations with the right people in order to get stuff done. And they're doing it in a bold way. They are not afraid to be a little loud or call people out. A4A actively disrupts the tired, old story of Appalachia.

These conversations are represented in the logo. Two speech bubbles sit back to back on bold, diagonal lines, one set apart from the 2-dimensional plane. Diagonal lines conveys movement, depth and difference. It is no accident that popular progressive politicians utilize these lines in their campaigns – we want people to notice that visual cue.

Why black and white?
The movement is shifting and growing. A4A needs a strong logo that's in for the long haul. This mark is utilitarian– it can look good next to every color and any photo you need to use. Black and white provides a stable canvas for A4A to emphasize and embellish digital communications with the full color palette in an impactful way.

Alternate logos: the purpose of alternate logos is to provide different orientations to use when the primary logo won’t fit or scale. Alternate logos may also be used when context of the primary logo is already understood.
I acted as lead designer on Appalachians for Appalachia while employed at P&P Creative. This concept was ultimately altered to better meet client needs. However, I'm pretty dang proud of my first take. See the final product here. While you're there, check out all the great work A4A is doing in Appalachia.
